Religious Hatred
Burnley Conservatives have contacted Kitty Ussher with their concerns over Labour's planned Religious Hatred Legislation. Although the Bill has been borne out of good intentions, Conservatives oppose it on the following grounds:
-
Free Speech. The Bill may threaten our right to criticise a religion.
-
Community relations. Australia's Queensland has similar legislation. Members of different religions have been known to attend each other's meetings with the intention of feeling offended so they can lodge complaints with the police.
-
The Bill is unnecessary. Terrorism and incitement to violence are already covered by existing laws. We urge you to write to your MP and express your concerns before this worrying Bill becomes law.
Conservatives speak out against Lib Dem ‘Local Income Tax'
This new tax on income would penalise those who work hard and would be used to help pay for all their extra regulations and red tape. Whereas Council Tax is hardly something worth defending, Conservatives have yet to see anything better offered...'better the devil you know'? Fulledge Conservative Club

If you drive into Lancashire from our old rival, Yorkshire, you will not know you have changed counties unless you look at a map or see an unofficial boundary marker highlighting the old 1974 border. Yet if you attempt to leave the unitary borough of Blackburn with Darwen, no matter which back lane you take, you will be greeted by the sign above.

Why?? You've never actually left Lancashire. And on the occasions when you do leave the county and return to it, you are offered no such greeting.
Could it be that the Labour dominated County Council is having a political dig at the Labour dominated Blackburn with Darwen, seeing as they opted out of the former's remit? And who has paid for all this? The Lancashire -including Burnley- tax payer.
In the course of the next few weeks, Burnley Conservatives will be contacting both councils to find out the official reason for this waste of our money by Labour. We shall also seek, with the help of Conservative members on the County Council, to have such signs either pulled down or relocated to our county's REAL borders.
