 | Come hail, sleet or snow |
 |
This blogger spent four hours today driving around Burnley, taking photos with his digital camera, in order to illustrate various pages of this site. It rained, it shone, it snowed, it hailed, it blew. You name it, I was subject to it. I was accosted by a well-meaning man in Queensgate who was adamant that I needed his directions, and he my life-story, bumped into (almost literally) Cosima Towneley at Gawthorpe Hall, and was followed about by another, less well-meaning man at Crown Point (fellow heterosexuals beware).
All in all, a busy day.
You should see the fruits of my labours tomorrow.

 | Legal Requirment |
 |
Please can I remind candidates for next May's elections who are preparing literature, that Peter must read it and approve of what you say (preferably PRIOR to your approaching the printer). As agent, he is legally responsible for what is written, and has to carry the can.
This must also be acknowledged on any literature. Check out www.alanmarsden.org for my example, at the very bottom.

 | Little Faces |
 |
I've put mini portraits of some of our election candidates on the front page. A part of me rather likes this, another part of me says it looks plain naff. Tell me what you think:

 | Kitty's Bandwagons |
 |
I have been unable to add to Kitty's Bandwagons for some time now. There have not been any more examples of her blatantly hopping onto an issue for its own sake being reported in the press.
Perhaps our young MP has matured?

 | Either way, we lose |
 |
Usually, local government consists of balancing the demands of services with taxing those same services' users.
In other words, we can either pay more tax and see more money spent, or reduce our tax and see less money spent.
Well last night, we Lancastrians lost out on both fronts.
The Labour controlled County Council, rejecting Conservative and Lib Dem amendments, decided to increase Council Tax by 5%, and STILL close eight libraries, including one at Ightenhill.
Vote Labour: pay more, get less.

 | Latest Meeting |
 |
The latest meeting of the Association took place this week.
Final candidates were allocated to council wards, nominations for next month's AGM were being signed, and a lively discussion about ID cards followed.
It was also good to welcome Cosima and Jonathan as new members. It was also good to see Mark again.

 | Smokers Chokers |
 |
I hate smoking. I hate going out and returning home smelling like someone has set me on fire; I hate the fact that my mother wastes her limited money on cigarettes, and is unable to quit; An attractive girl who suddenly lights up seems to lose her attractiveness. So it will come as little surprise when I reveal that I do not intend to start smoking.
So why do I feel so miserable now that New Labour has banned smoking in public places?
Because it's yet another example of Labour ministers muscling into our private lives and telling us how to behave.
I'm half tempted to start smoking now, just to pee on Patricia Hewitt's bonfire.

 | Incitement to Violence |
 |
This week, I have watched my television and seen a rabble of thugs demand beheadings and an end to freedom.
Today, the police are considering whether they need to make any arrests.
Maybe they're too busy investigating middle-aged couples for alleged homphobia.

 | Shame |
 |
According to this week's Burnley and Pendle Citizen, a leading BNP organiser was busying himself distributing political leaflets whilst sporting a sandwich board at our recent Holocaust Memorial Day Service.
Now that's what I call tasteful.
